Giving a Spirit Score

Spirit Score Guidelines:

  • Teams should not lose Spirit points for enforcing a 4:3 ratio (if appropriate). Captains can agree to play a different ratio, but are under no obligation to do so. It is disrespectful to your own team to play a ratio that is not beneficial to your team’s enjoyment / competitiveness / value for money.
  • Below is a procedure for giving spirit that teams can follow to get a spirit score:
    1. Start at 0

    2. Other team showed up on time, add 1 point______
    3. They knew the rules (or were receptive to learning them), add 1 point_____
    4. They were courteous and polite in all aspects of the game, add 1 point_____
    5. They played safely, with respect for our players’ wellbeing, add 1 point_____
    6. Even if I disagreed with them, they made fair calls, and were open to discussing them, add 1 point_____
    7. They tried really hard to make the game fun, add 1 point_____
    8. Other team cheered us and congratulated us on good plays, add 1 point_____
    9. They played hard, but never at the expense of good sportsmanship, and they didn’t abuse the rules, add 1 point_____
    10. Other team gave us prizes, played bear-hunter-maiden, or otherwise went out of their way to do something fun / nice, add 1 point_____
    11. This game was really special, add 1 point_____
